Too much sun is a no-brainer as far as reasons go. I mean, it's pretty common to see textiles covering up around pools when they've gotten enough (or too much) sun, right? What's the difference? Nudists are certainly prone to getting too much sun (likely more-so than most people). Because we love to be nude whenever possible it's hard to get nudists to put their clothes on, so when we do need to cover we tend to just cover the minimum. A shirt fits the bill perfectly. What more do you need?
Sometimes being chilled is stating the obvious! If you're out in the snow, enjoying a bit of winter recreation like this couple on the left, you are going to need some sort of protection. If not, everything you do needs to be "amped-up" to feel like you're racing around in a hurry before you freeze to death. If you're a nudist working outdoor it's different. Working in the nude is excellent for keeping the body cool and comfortable. Leave the goods bare and let the air swirl, and you can work happily and comfortably!
In these next two pictures, see how "non-unusual" the people wearing t-shirts look? They don't look weird, nor is anyone staring or admonishing them for not being naked. The first one looks to be youngsters that probably involved a parent saying, "you're burning, put a shirt on" or something. The second looks like it may have been sunny, but a maybe still a bit early in the day. They just needed a bit more warmth for a bit longer.
